Lost & Found

FOUND DOG (7/19/15): Italian greyhound, older neutered male, found on Endicott Avenue near the North Cambridge/Somerville line and Matignon High School around 8:30 AM on July 19th. He is wearing a blue collar but the tags are missing. His skin shows signs of allergies and his teeth and pads show signs of age. He’s friendly and in good hands. Can you help find his owner? LOST DOG (5/4/13): Olive was last seen in Harvard Square, Cambridge, around the alley near the Ann Taylor store on Brattle street. (The alley goes between Brattle street and Mount Auburn Street, where the post office is.) She went missing around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning (5/4). She is a pit bull, but it is safe to approach her because she is trained as a service dog. Olive weighs about 55 pounds, and is a light brindle with a longer face and longer legs than you would expect for a pitbull. She was last seen wearing a black harness with a very short leash attached to it. Call her owner at 857-888-0498 with any information.

LOST DOG (12/24/12): Bestselling author Dennis Lehane’s beagle Tessa jumped her backyard fence in the Coolidge Corner area of Brookline on Christmas Eve and was still missing as of Dec. 28. As a reward, Lehane has offered to name a character in his next novel after the person who finds Tessa. If you spot Tessa, please contact Lehane through his Facebook page.

LOST DOG (10/29/12): Read about the ongoing search for Snappy, a 4-year-old Weimaraner from Cambridge, who went missing at the Burlington reservoir in September and has been seen and tracked through the Winchester-Woburn-Lexington-Arlington area since.

UPDATE: Pippo was found a few days later hiding in a basement window well near home. LOST DOG (9/22/12): Brown shihtzu 14-1/2 yr. old “Pippo” escaped from Blakeslee Street, near Huron Village, at 2 pm. on Sat. Has dementia.. won’t go far.. likes to burrow; please check under shurbs in yards. If found, please call 617-354-0237 or Cambridge Police.

UPDATE (8/1/12): Annie was finally found, after almost 3 weeks on the loose. Thanks to the Somerville Police Department and everyone else who helped spread the word about the search.

LOST DOG (7/18/12): Annie, a female Schnauzer mix, went missing from the Winter Hill area of Somerville (School and Medford St) on 7/12 and was seen on 7/17 near Pearl & Walnut. Annie is 35 lbs and 3 years old. She is microchipped but lost her collar. She is nervous but not aggressive. DO NOT CHASE.

Owners of lost dogs should alert the Cambridge Animal Commission (617-349-3300 off-hours emergency line or 617 -349-4376 Mon.-Sat. daytime) and the Massachusetts Humane Society (781-335-3300). It’s also a good idea to call local veterinarians’ offices to see if anyone has reported a lost dog (e.g. Fresh Pond Animal Hospital 617-484-1555).

There is a Facebook page called Lost and Found Pets of Massachusetts, where you can post a photo of your lost dog (or cat) and your contact info. It’s a good place to check if you’ve found a dog, too.

FidoFinder.com has the largest public, searchable database of lost and found dogs. You can register a lost or found dog at no charge. The site also offers helpful tips on effectively searching for a lost dog and help designing a custom “lost dog” flyer. FidoFinder is active on Facebook and Twitter.

Pet Amber Alert also maintains a national database of lost pets and can send a phone alert to all the homes and businesses in the area where your pet was last seen (for a fee). Download their free “Pet Recovery Guide” and learn about their services.

FindToto.com is another fee-based service that can place a recorded phone call to all households in a neighborhood or zip code, alerting them your dog is missing. FindToto also lists pets that have been found (search by zip code or town).

Search Craigslist in your area. There are many entries for lost and found pets.
